My name is Basileus; also known as Basil.
I am a qualified Dutch horticulturalist, plant grower and professional gardener with over 20 years’
experience in the industry.
I studied horticulture in Aalsmeer, The Netherlands, the largest trading centre for plants and flowers in the world and worked for many employers in Europe and the USA.
As a young man I started working in nurseries in the Netherlands followed by student placements in industrial scale nurseries in the USA.
I trained in Florida where everything was grown outside and in North Carolina where plants were grown under 400,000sq meters of greenhouse and where the overall production was more than 110 million plants per year. Plants grown in these nurseries ranged from begonias to large mature specimen trees.
In the Netherlands I worked at large commercial production nurseries growing a variety of plants from roses, fuchsias, begonias, perennials, carnivorous plants amongst many others.
I have been living in the UK for over 20 years now. I have worked as an interior landscaper providing plant and flower displays to offices, hotels and large shopping centres, etc. As a horticultural co-ordinator I have been responsible for annually growing over 200,000 bedding plants to fulfil contracts for local authorities. Further to that role I have had several years working with and training people who have learning difficulties.
My experience includes producing flowers, shrubs and trees, annuals and perennial plants, vegetable plants and can provide an assortment of hanging basket arrangements to your specification. In 2019 I secured an order for 200 hanging baskets. This was great fun!
